New Song!

It has been eons since I shared a song but I finally have one for you!  Recorded Sunday morning in my living room.

A few notes.

  1. If it looks like I am gazing meaningfully at the camera in the last verse, it is because I displayed the just-written lyrics for myself right next to the camera and I am trying to read them.
  2. I mess up a chord. See if you can find where.
  3. I recorded this on my iphone and the volume is pretty low…headphones might be a good bet.
  4. This is a 3 chord song! Easy to learn if you like.

Lyrics follow.

Timeless
By Kris Adams

Holler around the bend
Ahead just a day or two
You see me walking there
And I turn back to look for you

There you are yesterday
And here I am overjoyed
Cause I hear you call to me
Like time is another toy

So many hours or none at all
We watch the clocks spin and dissolve
Timeless

When we’re in another world
I will remember this
I will remember you
Remember the way you kiss

You got the best of me
And I see the best in you
Our own little miracle
Just an eternity or two

You know we are everyone
We roll the dice, have a little fun
Timeless

Older than the road that we’re walking on
Younger than the thoughts that have yet to come
Stronger than the storms that we’ve overcome

This is no fairy tale
You make it up as you go
Nothing is ending here
It’s better if you don’t know

What’s coming straight to you
Has already begun
And all that your living for
You were destined to become

So many hours or none at all
We watch the days spin and dissolve
Timeless

Pleasant Audio, Horrible Video

I wrote this tune for a friend’s boy band.  Pretend it’s an mp3 or just enjoy the moment of zen that the spinning PBR light offers.

You can bring home the bacon-
I’ll fry it up in the pan
You can be all you wanna be
I’m a man who understands (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)

Do your thing how you wanna
Change  your mind on a dime
Love my woman cause you do so good  – you’re so fine

And when you come home, sugar mama I’ll be there
When you wash up, thinking on your day
Take a deep breath – I know your mind is running wild

Too much to do, pay the bills cause you gotta
Feed them birds cause they eat more than Jabba
Work your bod so you feel like you wanna
You look so good like you do, don’t worry

You can just leave it all up to me, yeah
You can just leave it all up to me, yeah

Got all my eggs in your basket
I see you strut I want to howl
You got me good, can’t you tell

Take a moment to yourself or better
Take a night on the town
You deserve to let yourself get loose and get down

And when you come home
Sugar mama I’ll be there
I’ll be washed up, headed straight your way
Better watch out, I know you like you know yourself

Just under your ear there’s a spot makes you holler
I’ll take your coat, you’re about to get hotter
Work your bod so you feel like you wanna
You feel so good like you do, don’t worry

You can just leave it all up to me, yeah
You can just leave it all up to me, yeah
You can just leave it all up to me, yeah

“I bet King Zeus broke down and got a mini-van”

A few tunes.

This one is one I wrote called: Mt. Olympus.  I am singing with the incredible Andrew Nath.  Lyrics follow….

Maybe the gods have got a ten year plan
I’ll bet Poseidon is a sentimental man
I bet he reads alot and I bet he understands
How to build earthly mountains shifting tiny grains of sand

Maybe King Zeus broke down and got a minivan
All of his ladyfriends- they think they understand him
I bet he eats alot and plays tennis when he can
And I bet Zeus the god aspires to be a better man

Da da da’s

I don’t see what’s so different about that Mount Olympus
I don’t see it at all
It seems like it’d be like what we’re in…
right here where a butterfly in Paris can stir a Carolina wind.
It seem like it’d be like what we’re in…
right here where a butterfly in Paris can stir a Carolina wind

This one is a BoDeans cover I was assigned for local radio station MMM’s local songwriter contest, Project M in 2012.  I was booted off  because they didn’t like my first performance from the week before.  But they didn’t tell me to hit the bricks until after I learned and performed this cover.  It’s a great song- glad I learned it.

Macho Man

Happy Mother’s Day!  Thanks to Justin for giving me some time to record a song this weekend.  Alone time on Mother’s Day weekend…whoohoo!! I am so lucky to have a honey that I love with all my heart who was willing to enter into a relationship with all his heart too.

This song is about a man I met when I was still single.  He was a potential roommate and we had gotten into some deep discussions as we were deciding whether we would be a good fit sharing rent.  At the time, he was in a relationship with a woman he adored.  He knew they were falling in love with each other.  And for that reason he decided to break up with her.  He didn’t want the kind of complications that love brings.  I was so astounded by the nerve of being handed a great gift like love and turning it down, that I immediately decided that not only did I not want him for a roommate, but I didn’t want him as a friend either.  He wanted to believe he was choosing to end his relationship based on a rational choice for how he wanted to live.  I though otherwise- it seemed to me he was just chickenshit scared.    He was the inspiration behind this song: Macho Man.

Macho Man
I want to know- is that heavy, your emotional overload?
I want to know- is she waiting for you down by the phone?
Cause this round it’s real, even if you won’t make concessions
I can feel how you feel but you don’t have time to burn

Hope you to know this time she’s not coming back if you let her go
Hope you see your  own heaven not drunk, not alone
Cause one day you’ll wake up not feeling so good
You’ll say I had chances to be understood
But I let time pass me by, I let her pass me by

Go on macho man, make your impossible stand
Lay low, fade out
Brace yourself for that one way out

In this day, in this age, in this blind young country
When lily white comes to call you best face your concern
Cause in this day, in this age, in the same old worn out blue jeans
Your just a sad man afraid to unlock your door

I want to know, is that heavy? Your emotional overload
Want you to go to your heaven, with her, not alone

She walked out so forceful, so dressed like an angel
You wake up remorseful, confused and too late saying
With you gone, with you gone
I feel strange alone
With you gone, with you gone
Nothing feels quite like home
With you gone, with you gone
I can’t feel myself
With you gone, with you gone, with you…gone.

Go on macho man, make your impossible stand
Lay low, fade out
Brace yourself for that one way out
